Kjarton Poskit by CallumC and Shanice

March15

On Tuesday 8th March Kjarton Poskit showed us magic tricks, Flexigons and other hilarious tricks. He explained how the books he wrote his books. He read two different books, one called Agatha Parrott and murderous maths.

He explain his favourite authors and why.He played the poisonous chocolate game and he asked volunteers to come up and demonstrated how it works. Although Kjarton Poskit is funny and made everyone laugh, we enjoyed all his good and fun games more.

You must hang from your window if it’s needed but it’s only used as a last resort. It’s recommended to check your smoke alarms once a week. If your cloths set on fire stop, drop and roll, also don’t panic. If the other side of your door has fire around feel the door with the back of your hand the sensitive hairs will alert you that there’s fire behind the door. The door will give you 15 minutes while the fire brigade gets there. This is why it’s recommended by fire fighters to close as many doors as possible.

Did you know that it takes up to 50 volts to kill you? Your house has 230 volts-this power could kill you 4 times over. Electric jumps!

At sea, it’s only meant to take a life guard 20 seconds to reach you and save your life. Nearly 350 people died last year by drowning. There are 4 different flags that have different meanings and rules to follow.

Any social media app recommends that your are 13 years of age.:like Instagram and Facebook- these are very common sights. Don’t give out any personal information to anyone online that you don’t know. Just because people say they are young, doesn’t mean that they are actually who they say they are. Also you must change your passwords monthly.

Our day out at the safety Carousel by Ellie and Kaine

March15

Yesterday, we had a wonderful day out at the safety Carousel. We visited a fire safety workshop and we had to press a buzzer to answer the question. When it came up HAZARD, we watched a short video clip. Three more important things you should know is if you catch fire: you have to STOP DROP ROLL on the floor. Also if you put your hand up against the door, you can feel the heat so you know not open the door also you get all of the soft things and throw all of them down on the floor outside and hang out the window ledge. We also learnt that if your family are still in the house, you can not go back inside of the house until the firemen are there.

The RNLI came in and told us that if your nose and mouth are covered you have more chance of drowning.

Did you know that it only takes 50 volts to kill you? Also did you know that electricity can jump? People try to steal the copper wire but most people get caught by the police. Another thing you should never throw water on a oil based fire because it will kill you.

At round safety we do investergating about these tow chilldren how fell of there bike and got knockt over. But we hat to have a loock at it and try to see what happend.

At the water sathety we watched a video of last year and they saved a lot of peaple in sea also they said  that it is dangerous to swim were there is no life guard.

In electricity we learnt that 50 volts could kill you and not to be silly around electricity because it could be very dangerous.

Safety Carousel 2016 by Bradley and Brian

Fire

One of the messages from the fire service is to not have more than 13 amps in your extension lead at one time because this would cause a fire.Another one is that you should move the back of your hand against the door to check if there’s a fire outside of your door. You should also check your smoke alarm once every week.

The quiz told us that if there’s a fire you should stop what your doing, drop to the ground and roll around if you’re on fire. Also you should always shut your doors all the time and if there’s a fire you should drop out of the window if you are upstairs and if the door is blocked by a fire . Also you should always know where the front and back door keys are.

Police

The Police explained to us about Internet safety and we also did a quiz on it.
He told us that we should

Not to be on any social media sites until we were 16 to 17 years old

If you have friends online you should be 100%sure that it is you they say they are.
If you want to find out more you should watch the Simon and Becky video on YouTube.

RNLI/Watersafety

The RNLI told us that the safest place to swim between November and March is the swimming pool because on the beach there is no life guards between the two months. If you’re in trouble don’t wave with both hands wave with one and scream help because the other one will keep you afloat. You can ring 999 and ask for the coast guards .
The amount of people that drowned last year was 381 and it only takes a ring from your nose to your mouth for you to drown.

Electricity

Did you know that electricity jumps? If you ever lose anything near the electric station you can call the number which will be round the outside of the station on the gates.

Safety Carousel by Mia and Grace

March15

Yesterday, we visited the Safety Carousel and it was lots of fun! We enjoyed the fire quiz because we found out safety facts such as: stop, drop and roll, you can feel the heat on the door with the back of your hand also you must, go out, stay out and call 999. We also enjoyed the electricity workshop because we learned new things like: electricity jumps and it also takes 50 volts to kill you. The other thing we liked was the water safety because we learned a lot of dangers that could happen at the beach. A fact about water safety is that it takes a diamond shape around your nose and mouth so that you can breathe. Unfortunately, last year alone 381 people drowned. After lunch, we went to the police to learn about Internet safety and we watched a clip about being safe online. We also had a quiz at the end. When we finished all of our workshops, we all joined together with all of the other schools and the workshop leaders asked questions. And we all shouted the answers out aloud. We really enjoyed the Safety Carousel. It was fun!!!

Safety Carousel by Lewis and Tymek.

March15

Yesterday, our school-Brandon Primary school- went to a safety carousel (in Newton Aycliffe). We learned many vital life lessons there, helping us to stay safe.

The first safety technique we learned is that it only takes the distance between your chin and nose to drown you. This helps us to understand the fact that you should not under-estimate the power of water even if it looks safe.

In the police pod,we learned that you should not put your E-mail or any other private details e.g.your phone number, on your profile, due to the fact that people-that you would not like to meet-may find you.

Somewhat interestingly, we learned in the fire safety lesson that we should not have more than 13 amps in your extension cable caused by the fact that it can start a fire. Not only did they tell us that but also they told us another useful fact ; if you get caught on fire you should : stop, drop and roll.

Furthermore, when we went to the electricity pod we learned that electricity can travel through different surfaces including : fishing poles, kites and plastic. on top of this, electricity can jump.

In conclusion, we had a fantastic time and learned many important facts that will help us stay safe in the future.
